(44) TEEB India Initiative – Wetlands
TEEB-India Initiative (The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity – India Initiative) (TII) marks an important effort towards increasing visibility of the value of wetland ecosystem services and biodiversity in policy and decision making process. Under a collaborative framework, the initiative uses pilot projects to demonstrate application of economics based approaches for improved conservation and sustainable use of wetlands. The side event is being organized to launch the TII Wetlands report, showcase the outcomes of the TII Wetlands initiative to the Ramsar Convention Contracting Parties and to promote application of economics based approaches for the integrated management of wetlands. The side event is also intended to highlight the various efforts being made by India, as a Contracting Party of the Ramsar Convention, for an improved policy and decision making environment for conserving its diverse wetland regime.
