23rd Annual Session of the International Seabed Authority

The 23rd annual session of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) will be held at the ISA headquarters in Kingston, Jamaica, with the Assembly opening on 8 August 2017 and continuing on 15-18 August, and the Council convening from 8-14 August. At the annual sessions, ISA member states discuss and provide direction to the work of the ISA and its Secretariat. The Council will consider, among various issues, the status of contracts, the status of national legislation, and draft regulations on the exploitation of marine minerals in the international seabed Area (defined as the seabed and subsoil beyond the limits of national jurisdiction). The Assembly will discuss, among other items, the report of the ISA Secretary General and the final report on the periodic review of the ISA pursuant to Article 154 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
