IRENA Renewables and Islands Global Summit

The IRENA Renewables and Islands Global Summit is part of the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) activities on the accelerated development of renewable energy on islands. It is taking place within the context of the UN International Year of Sustainable Energy for All and recent conclusion of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development. The two-day Summit will feature panel discussions with leaders, experts, partners and the private sector, and a ministerial dialogue. The topics to be discussed include: realizing the high potential for renewable energy to address islands’ energy needs; best practices and examples of innovative solutions; the role of renewables in power generation and end use sectors; and the Rio+20 outcome as a platform for attention to energy needs of islands.
